  • 1986INTERNATIONAL CUSTOM ARMORED TRUCK "DUNK DANK"
  • Summary : Any robber trying to break into this money-hauling armored truck will end up all wet. This splash sensation can hold over 7,000 pounds of water in its customized dunk tank. Sold on a Bill of Sale only. Special conditions apply.
  • Description : Jesse and his team turned a money-hauling armored truck into a crowd-pleasing mobile dunk tank complete with hydraulic doors and a power seat-trigger mechanism. Sounds easy enough for Monster Garage, right? Well, not when you consider the watertight requirements, on-the-fly design changes, budget issues, miscommunication and a late-week injury that made this undertaking anything but a slam dunk. The team cut the roof out in two sections for the tank, ladder and dunk seat. And cut two side holes on truck to install windows. They also reinforced the framing underneath and welded a new floor for the tank to sustain the weight of the acrylic and water. The hydraulics for the rear door and the roof of the truck are controlled in the cab by a series of levers. Keeping the tank watertight proved to be a bigger task than anticipated. There were leak problems with the tank due to the sealant no having enough time to set, but the "Special Scottie Welds" from Scottie, Larry and Wayde. Helped make the tank, watertight. THE DESIGNERS: Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, CA, Wayde King, acrylic tank manufacturer, Las Vegas, NV, Harry Sze, transportation design student, Chino Hills, CA, and Mark Willett, carnival supply company manager and fabricator, Long Beach, CA. THE BUILDERS: Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, CA, Larry Archuleta, armored car designer and fabricator, Roy, UT, Scottie Chapman, welder and fabricator, Oakland, CA, Wayde King, acrylic tank manufacturer, Las Vegas, NV, Christian Ristow, effects and animatronics specialist, Los Angeles, CA, and Mark Willett, carnival supply company manager and fabricator, Long Beach, CA. VEHICLE SPECS: Height: Tank: 57.5", without tires: 72" and with tires: 100"; Width: Tank: 75"/ 93"; Length: 57.5"/ 210"; Weight: 13,716 pounds empty/ 21,000 pounds full. Additional Acquired or Machined Parts: Neoprene to line the acrylic sheets to keep the water in, and special washers on the acrylic sheets. Had to use the armored truck's cylinoids instead of new ones because of budget constraints. Kept having to get new batteries because the truck used up so much juice.
